MRM Gray '05 and Blue '06 Magic Ajax started in 2012 as a single team playing U7 in the SAM Soccer League under the Coaching team of Christos Nicholas and Leroy Haynes. AJAX joined Maryland Rush Montgomery (MRM) as a U9 team and played in NCSL for 2 years. The team increased to 2 teams (2005 and 2006) in 2016 and added Devin Payton to their training program. In Fall 2017, both teams began to be coached and trained by Devin Payton and have changed their name to Magic Ajax. MRM Blue '06 Magic Ajax plays in US Youth Soccer National League EDP South Atlantic Premier II Division and is Premier level, ranked top 20 teams in the State of Maryland with GotSoccer and Youth Soccer Rankings. MRM Gray '05 Magic Ajax plays in the EDP South Atlantic-South Premier III Division.
The teams are organized with a focus on leadership and player development, skills for long term soccer appreciation, and opportunities. The parents and coaches are dedicated to players on and off the field while emphasizing good sportsmanship, tactical skills, and teamwork as pillars for a successful team. Players are provided with a variety of training programs, which enhance their personal growth. All players are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment to attend practices, games, and tournaments.
We provide a positive learning environment where young players can develop a passion for the sport of soccer and develop their full potential. All players are provided with a challenging environment where their technical, tactical, physical and psychological skills are tested at varying degrees in accordance with age specific training. However, we also stress the importance of family and the need to balance the love of soccer with a good educational foundation. School is important and maintaining good grades will help ensure you are able to continue to play soccer beyond high school into college and beyond.
Both teams play in the EDP league in the fall and spring and with the Magic Moves Futsal League in the winter. The teams play tournaments and practice year round. We practice in the Northern Montgomery County area – mostly in Gaithersburg – on fields convenient to I-270. EDP is a travel league; however, games are played in Maryland, with the majority in the Howard County/Baltimore area. Travel is usually limited to an hour or an hour and a half distance for away games.
We play local tournaments, such as the EDP Fall Kickoff Tournament, August Cup, Potomac Memorial Day Tournament, and the Columbia Cup. During the winter, the teams may compete in the Maryland Futsal State Cup or a local futsal tournaments.
